Under National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS) there is a provision for the payment of Rs. 500 per pregnancy to women belonging to poor house-holds for pre-natal and post-natal maternity care upto first two live births.
The benefit is provided to eligible women of 19 years and above. Beneficiaries had generally observed that the amount was not adequate for them.
Observation:
I) Assistance should be given in two parts, the first half in the pre- natal period while the second half in the post-natal period
II) Higher post-natal assistance will be given in case of female child
III) Amount will be paid in cheque to avoid corruption
IV) The cheque must be account payee in Bank or Post office for proper utilization of the amount
V) Strict action will be taken in case of any complain
