Noted oncologist Dr. Saroj Gupta died on 21st May 2010 in Kolkata - pioneered modern cancer treatment in Kolkata. He passed away after a brief illness at eighty . Gupta honoured with that Padma Shree in 1987, had set up the 'Cancer Centre Welfare Home & Research Institute' at Thakurpukur in the early 70s.
